Today we will briefly discuss editing your website.
Once your web site has gone live and you have access to it you need to learn the basics on how to edit your site and add images and text.using your website dashboard.
You should get your web site designer to show you these simple tasks .There are many different ways to do this. He could either write you a tutorial with screen shots for a simple site or set up a personal one on one meeting.
If you aren't in the same city he can set up a remote control session where you can both view and interact with the website. Which ever way you decide to do this depends on circumstances but the best way is one on one or a one on one remote session it also helps to use Skype or phone along with the remote screen view.
Depending on the type and complexity of your site it could be as simple as showing you how to add a post on your website blog or news page. Or it could be more complex tasks like making a new category and adding products to your site.
After you are shown a task try to complete the same task your self and if you make any mistakes he should be able to help you fix them and show you what you did wrong. Make the most of these sessions and ask questions and take screen shots and notes.
After a few sessions you should be familiar with logging in to your site. You should know basic things like changing the log in password, doing simple editing and saving your settings .
Depending on the type of platform used you should also learn how to make regular backups of your site. Some sites will back up automatically but it is always good to be able to make a downloadable zip file that can be saved on your computer in case you do something wrong when working on your site .
If you have a recent back up your web-master should be able to restore your site as near as possible to what it was before you made a bad change. The back end on most websites are usually a wysiwg editor (what you see is what you get ) type editor and you usually cant do much damage to the site with these .
You might make some unwanted changes but you shouldn't be able to break the site using them they usually allow you to add text insert links and images etc .
On the other hand if you need to go into C-panel or other hosting platform editors and make changes to style sheets and templates in your main public files then you really need to know what you are doing and you will need to know exactly how to make a back up before each change in case your change breaks your site and you will also need to know how exactly how you can revert immediately to the back up.

Lesson 2/ Using Google analytics'

Today we will teach you a little about website statistics. At total Web site solutions we use Google analytics as our main website analysis tool. To use the Google analytics tool you need to sign up for a Google account .
The easiest way to do this is to set up a gmail account in your business name this way you can link all your Google tools for your website to the same account. If you are not sure about doing this then ask your website designer to set it all up for you and you can change the passwords later.
Google has a lot of tools that can be used for checking your web site , looking for keywords,advertising and much much, more today we will just talk about the analytics tool.
Once you have a Google account set up then register for Google analytics and follow the set up directions or get your web designer to show you how. You will need to put your website url and other details into the program then it will generate some html code. You then need to copy this code and using a html editor and put the code on your website so that Google can access it easily.
It is best to get your web designer to set up this up for you to make sure it all works properly. Once the code is set up on your site it will collect data from your web site visitors. Details like the number of visitors each day to your web page. How many pages they viewed , how long they spent on each page , what website they were referred from and much more.
You can then log into your analytics account and find this data on various graphs and pie charts. You can then use this information to learn where your visitors are coming from ( like face book or from another website link or from your paid advertising campaigns ).
You can learn what key words people were searching for and much more. Lesson 3 Using Google Adwords

Last week we mentioned about some of the tools from google and gave a you brief explanation about Google analytics and how it works. today we will outline google ad-words for you.Google ad-words is used to set up your own Paid advertising campaign on Google .
When ever you use google it always brings up advertisements relevant to the key word or key words you were searching for. If you type in blue cars then Google will firstly show you advertisements from car dealers selling blue cars. It displays adverts on the top of the search page and also on the right hand side of the page.
Google ad-words are based on a pay per click sytem. This is where you only pay a small fee when some one clicks on one of your adds displayed in Google results. You don"t pay if it displays and no one clicks on it . This means that people can read the headline and if they are not interested in your product -website and don"t click your add you you will not get charged for the display.
When you run a Google ad-words campaign this is where your company ads will show up . You need to sign up for a Google adwords account (log in through your gmail account and enter your company details.) Once you have set up your account you need to create a campaign .
You need to give your campaign a name and set up your daily budget and amount you would like to limit your highest bid for key words(this part is very important as some key words can be very high priced and have a lot of competition do not let Google automaticaly adjust this or you will go over budget very quickly ).
You then need add some key words. To find key words make a list of what you would type into Google if you were looking for your own products or services.( a key word can be a group of 1 or more words like cars or --blue cars or large blue cars).
Try to add only relevant keywords to the page on your site you are linking to in your adds. A key word like "cars " will get you a lot of clicks and traffic through your website (if you own a car sales yard) but will also cost you a lot of money in clicks and you most likely will not get many sales from all this traffic.
You need to use (buyer keywords) a person who found your add by typing in a " prices for new large blue car with red tyres " into his web browser is more likely to be ready to buy from you as he already knows what he is searching for .
Once you have your account set up you can add funds via credit card or other payment options and go live with your campaign. If you would like to learn more about keyword research go here to find out.
Another way of finding good keywords is to use the Google key-word tool. This tool has many different search variables and will also tell you how many people are already looking for that same keyword each month and much more. Setting up an add-words campaign for the first time can be a bit daunting so you can always ask your website builder to help you with that and they might also be able to they can also run your campaigns within your budget for you each month for a small service fee.
